For beginners
Ceramics Foundations introduces participants to clay modeling, providing both practical and theoretical knowledge for creating everyday forms and decorative objects. Each session will involve guided experiments using essential handbuilding techniques.

Day 1. Meeting the Clay – First Contact
- Introduction to handbuilding and clay
- Learning the pinch pot method
- Creating cups and bowls using pinch and basic coil techniques

- Introduction to coil building
- Building a medium-sized flower pot
- Surface smoothing and basic decorating techniques

Day 3. Sculptural Vase with Decorative Elements
- Exploring slab techniques
- Creating a vase with added sculptural decorations (handles, textures, sculpted details)
- Combining handbuilding methods to enrich form and expression

Day 4. Painting with Glazes
- Basics of glazing: types, techniques, and safety
- Painting with glazes all your finished pieces
- Preparing your works for the final kiln firing
About the Tutor
Nadia Frolova is a Lisbon-based ceramic artist and teacher who helps people reconnect with their creativity through clay.
Classes are held in Nadia’s studio — a welcoming space where people are encouraged to experiment, play, and feel safe making mistakes. Whether you come to unwind, learn a new skill, or reconnect with yourself through clay, you’ll find a place here.
Nadia holds an MA in Glass and Ceramics from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon and is currently studying painting at ARCO, an independent art school in Lisbon.
Classes are held in Nadia’s studio — a welcoming space where people are encouraged to experiment, play, and feel safe making mistakes. Whether you come to unwind, learn a new skill, or reconnect with yourself through clay, you’ll find a place here.

FAQ
No, you don't. You don't need to be experienced in ceramics or any other form of art. This course is designed for people of all levels, even those who have never crafted anything with their hands before.
Throughout the course, you will have unlimited access to clay and paints. All firings are also included.
- You can book your spot with 100 % advance payment
- The cancellation policy: if you want to cancel your visit one week before class starts, it’s 100% refund. Three days before – 50% refund. Less than three days is not refundable. If cancellation happening from my side: I will refund 100%.
The dates and times are fixed. It is not possible to reschedule sessions if participants do not attend. No refunds will be given, so participants will need to guarantee their availability for all 4 dates of the course.
You don’t need to bring nothing with you, all materials and firings are included It’s better to have a short nails, otherwise it will be not very comfortable for you to interact with the clay
At the end of the course, all pieces will be fired and finished with a clear glaze. This process may take up to three weeks. Participants will receive an email notification when their pieces are ready for collection, from which date the pieces are guaranteed to be stored for a maximum of 45 days.
